Preventive vs. Diagnostic Care
Knowing the difference between preventive and diagnostic care is important, as diagnostic care may involve out-of-pocket costs depending on coverage. Members can log in to their Member Portal to review their Evidence of Coverage for further cost details.
- Preventive care focuses on maintaining your health and identifying problems early.
- Diagnostic care addresses existing or suspected health concerns.
Preventive Care
- Screening mammograms are for women age 40 and over without symptoms or a history of breast disease.
- Diabetes screening using lab tests to detect high blood sugar and possible diabetes.
- A well-child visit to monitor your child’s growth and development.
Diagnostic Care
- A diagnostic mammogram test is performed if a screening mammogram detects something suspicious or if there are signs of potential breast disease.
- Ongoing lab tests to monitor blood sugar levels after being diagnosed with diabetes.
- A sick-child visit to diagnose and treat your child’s symptoms.
